What’s Lurking In Your Gutters?

The thing about gutters is that they are out of sight, which can often mean they are also out of mind. However, there are lots of things that could be lurking in your gutters. Things like leaves, twigs and branches may be more obvious. However, tiles and concrete can also be found in gutters. They are blown from your roof by strong winds and then roll into your gutter. Perhaps you have a neighbour’s ball in there?

These are all things that could be lurking in your gutter, unknown to you. However, when the rain falls, and your gutters are pouring water over the side, or the downpipes aren’t working – it could mean these things have blocked your gutters.

Overtime, this could result in serious blockages and even broken gutters or damage to your property due to the weight the gutters are holding.

That might not be all that is lurking in your gutters though. There may be insects and small animals in your gutters too. The twigs, leaves and branches we have mentioned make great blockages for gutters. However, they also make great nesting materials for insects, squirrels, mice and even birds in some cases. This is commonly seen in the colder winter months when these rodents and best needs somewhere warm to stay and breed.
